GAMH Volunteer Befrienders

Hours:  2-3 hours voluntary per week, Minimum 6 month commitment plus training hours

GAMH (Glasgow Association for Mental Health) 
Provide Service Centres offering a range of locally networked social care services to people experiencing, or recovering from, mental ill health and their carers of all ages. Acitivities include Community outreach support, Housing support, Carers support, forums, Support to the Homeless and Volunteer Befriending.

Volunteer Befrienders  are matched and work with someone (Client group is 18-60 years of age) who has experienced mental ill health and are socially isolated for a variety of reasons. Will meet with person on a regular basis (weekly/fortnightly) and share activities and social interaction. Also possible group volunteering opportunities within community outreach.  

Initial Induction group training, Ongoing training and support, access to other associated training opportunities, Mental Health Awareness
No previous relevant experience is required as training provided. Person spec- understanding, non-judgemental, supportive and willing to learn. Minimum age required- 18 years of age plus. Travel and reasonable out of pocket expenses paid to volunteer. Enhanced Disclosure.
