Contact the Elderly groups run throughout the country providing older members with companionship and a vital link with the community from which they have become isolated. Help older people living on their own, generally in their 80’s and 90’s and who are unable to get out without a little assistance.
HOSTS
To provide a warm welcome, a friendly atmosphere and a simple afternoon tea with sandwiches and a few cakes for the older members and the volunteers twice a year or more. Requires good listening skills and able to chat easily with a mixture of older people. Some home essentials assessed with visit to home.
DRIVERS The volunteer drivers will use their own car to collect 1-2 older people just one Sunday afternoon each month. They collect the same older member from their home, driving them to the host’s home to spend a couple of hours together over tea before returning home. Drivers are not required to do any lifting only assisting with a steadying arm. Regular drivers are responsible for the monthly contact with their older guests, reminding them of the date and checking their attendance. One Sunday afternoon per month (3-4 hours) Require full driver’s licence and valid insurance, love meeting people and have a sense of humour.
GROUP CO-ORDINATORS The co-ordinator arranges the monthly outings, rebooking the annual host schedule and is the main contact for the group’s volunteer drivers and hosts. The co-ordinator welcomes new volunteers into the group, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities. Co-ordinators also meet and assess new older members prior to them joining the group. Flexible hours per month. Needs to ensure they can run things smoothly.
Drivers and Co-ordinators will provide 2 references and undertake enhanced disclosure.
