Central Govan Action Plan is a ten year (2006-2016), multi-million pound physical regeneration programme that aims to make Central Govan attractive, vibrant and prosperous. More than 500 new homes will go on site this year to help boost the resident population, and major public realm improvements are planned to transform Govan Cross into a stylish, vibrant, civic space at the very heart of the community.
Pearce Institute, Govan
Many of the historic buildings have restoration programmes underway, including Fairfield Shipyard Offices, the Pearce Institute and the former police station at Orkney Street. Plans to restore the town centre’s traditional shop fronts, undertake historic building repairs and preserve the heritage features around Govan Cross, including the Pearce Statue and the Aitken Memorial Fountain, are also underway through the Govan Cross Townscape Heritage Initiative.
A whole host of projects are also at early discussion and development stages including Govan Old Parish Church; the Lyceum; the relocation of Riverside Hall, and the Langlands Path improvements to name but a few.
